PUERTO RICO, SPRING 2020
Wednesday, March 25 -
Wellness Warrior Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization which promotes sustainability and wellness in underserved and impoverished communities worldwide through education, herbal medicine use, and post-disaster relief.
You are welcome to join us in beautiful Puerto Rico, a US Territory island located in the Caribbean! We will fill our week with herbal medicine making, sponsor two clinics, and work with a local school to teach children about herbs and natural healing. We will build the children an herb garden and plant fruit trees to encourage sustainability.
We plan to serve community members by completing projects which may include clean up, building, and repair. Two sites we are considering include our host, Elemental Eco Retreat, and a community affected by the recent earthquakes.
As always, we assure to enjoy a day of personal time, relaxing on the beach, snorkeling in the Caribbean, and hiking in the El Unique mountains. Additional fun takes us to dinner in San Juan's music district where we can enjoy dancing afterwards, and a night kayak trip at Laguna Grande, one of Puerto Rico's Bioluminescent Bays!
This is a participant paid trip and is limited to 18 participants. The total cost for this trip is $1000. However, students and participants under 26 years old have a discounted rate of $850. A $150 non-refundable security deposit is required at the time of registration.
This price excludes airfare, shopping, lunch in San Juan after we pick you up at the airport, dinner and drinks in San Juan when we have our celebration night in the city, and any other personal expense you may encounter.
From March 25-31, we will be working in communities in Puerto Rico to provide care to community members of all ages. Team members will arrive at the San Juan airport before 3 pm on Wednesday, March 25 and will be transported to our team home in the mountains. The team will participate in creating herbal medicines and preparing wound care products. At each of the two or three clinic events, team members will rotate through different care providing positions, work as support staff, or create herbal medicines in the apothecary.
Team members who have previously worked with WWF on a mission trip are encouraged to apply for a position of leadership where they will be tasked with different responsibilities during the clinics. If you are interested in these opportunities, please indicate so on your application.
*lodging at Elemental Eco Retreat, located in the mountains
*two daily meals & drinks
*adventure trip to see the bioluminescent coral reef. Join us as we take a kayak trip over the beautiful, clear, and bioluminescent bay to view the coral reef and sea creatures!
PRICES DO NOT INCLUDE
Team members are responsible for their own airfare. Team members will be required for their own travel arrangements to and from the team house if they do not arrive within the expected time frame provided for airport pick up and drop off. We will be heading to San Juan around 10 am Wednesday morning to provide drop-off for return flights home. Uber is available on the island and multiple stores and restaurants are close to the airport. Once the team is at the team house, members are not permitted to leave the property, unless needed to run errands or with permission, as the team will travel together throughout the week.
We challenge you to set your fundraising goals high! The cost of the trip is set, however donations received over and beyond the minimum allow us to be more flexible with the tools we bring with us, how many trees we can plant, and what types of medicines we can offer to our patients. In many cases, we like to purchase games and toys for the kids but these are not costs which are mandatory, so they are not worked into the trip cost. Any donation over the $850 or $1000 helps to support these activities!
All minimum funds must be raised prior to March 15, 2020 to assure they are received and credited to your account. Any funds raised on Facebook will take 57 days to post, so please do not consider this as a fundraising tool. Please instead, send your donors to you online fundraiser where they can donate directly to your account.
Once registered, you will create a link to set up online fundraising. This is required for each participant as it offers a way for donors to support your trip and receive proper tax credit and is the easiest way for us to track donations.
Fundraising events are currently being planned in Phoenix, AZ. All attendees will be notified of these events to participate. If you have a fundraising idea or would like to host an event for our team, please contact us.
***Although the new travel photo ID does not go into effect until October, 2020, it is your responsibility to assure you have the proper documents required to travel.
***Passports are not required to enter Puerto Rico as it is a US Territory.
We are excited to have you join our team and look forward to receiving your application.
